What is needed for the student visa?

What documents are required to obtain a student visa?

In this blog, we explain which documents are needed to apply for a student visa in Japan. Keep in mind that these documents may vary depending on the school, and the required financial amounts may also change.

Required documentation:

Application form
Usually provided in Word or Excel format and must include all your personal information. This form is mandatory for the immigration process, as it is reviewed by Immigration to grant your visa.
➤ It’s crucial to fill it out correctly, without hiding information or making mistakes, as inconsistencies or omissions could lead to a visa denial.
But don't worry! We’ll help you make sure that doesn’t happen.

Certificate of your latest studies
If you’ve completed your studies and are not currently enrolled, send a document indicating:

  • That you’ve finished your studies
  • The graduation date
  • The name of the institution
  • If you're still studying, send us:
  • A certificate proving your current enrollment
  • Your expected graduation date

Japanese certificate (minimum 150 hours) or JLPT N5
If you have the JLPT N5, send us a copy.
If not, provide a certificate clearly stating the study period and total hours of Japanese classes.
➤ If the certificate doesn’t include this information, we can’t accept it.

Guarantor documents:
The guarantor can be yourself, a family member, or your fiancé(e).
❌ Friends or acquaintances are not accepted.

The guarantor must submit the following:

  • Income certificate:
➤ Annual income must be between 2 and 3 million yen.
    This can be:
  • A tax return
  • A company letter stating annual salary
  • A pension certificate if retired
  • Bank certificate:
➤ At least 2 million yen must be available in the account.
Note: Stocks or loans do not count as valid funds.
  • Employment certificate:
Required unless the guarantor is retired.
  • Proof of relationship:
Only needed if the guarantor is not yourself.
    You can prove this with:
  • Birth certificates
  • Marriage certificates
  • Other official documents
